About Wastewater Monitoring
Wastewater monitoring is an important early-warning detection system that can identify and prevent the spread of COVID-19. The virus that causes COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) is found in the waste of individuals who have COVID-19, including those who are asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic.
As part of Healthy Davis Together, scientists at UC Davis analyze wastewater samples from 22 neighborhoods across Davis and publish the results weekly. The data collected from wastewater monitoring informs public health officials and the community if COVID-19 infections are falling, rising, or remaining the same. These graphs are updated every Saturday.
